Beating Victim Dies

A Whitby man who was attacked at Markham's Pacific Mall has died in hospital.
Long "Owen" Sha was 19-years-old.
A 20-year-old Richmond Hill man was also attacked but did not require medical treatment.
Police were called to the MHQ Karaoke Bar in the mall, at Kennedy Road and Steeles Avenue East last Wednesday, in connection with an assault.
Officers learned the two victims were speaking to another man in the bar when they were confronted by six men brandishing two handguns and a microphone as weapons.

Adam Lind's three-run double in the sixth inning led the Blue Jays to a 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox.
However, Toronto has placed Lyle Overbay on the disabled list after the first baseman was hit by a pitch in the third inning, which fractured his right hand.
Pitcher Sean Marcum also left the game with tightness in his back. His status is unknown
The Jays are off today and will open a three-game series against Tampa Bay on Tuesday.

In Jr. "B" Lacrosse action, the Markham Ironheads went 2-0 during a weekend roadtrip to Ottawa.
On Saturday, Markham beat Nepean 10-2, and on Sunday, the Ironheads defeated Gloucester 8-5.

YRP Looking For Seven Suspects After Serious Assault

York Regional Police is seeking the public's assistance in identifying seven suspects, wanted in connection with a serious assault in Markham that has left a 19-year-old Richmond Hill man in critical but stable condition in hospital.
On Wednesday, officers were called to MHQ Karaoke Box located in the Pacific Mall at 4300 Steeles Avenue East for a report of an assault.
Two men were in a karaoke room speaking to another male when they were confronted by six men brandishing two handguns and microphones as weapons.
The victims were physically attacked and one of the men was seriously assaulted as the suspects stole cash and property from them.

Roy Halladay picked up his 100th career victory as the Blue Jays beat the Chicago White Sox 2-0.
Halladay, who was out of action for three weeks after having an appendectomy, pitched seven shutout innings, giving up just six hits while striking out seven batters.
Game two of the four-game series goes tonight at the Rogers Centre.
AJ Burnett (5-4) will face Chicago's Javier Vazquez (2-3).

Dan West, the former head coach of the Stouffville Spirit Jr. "A" hockey team, was named head coach of the Bowmanville Eagles.
West led the Spirit to the North Conference and North-West Championships in 2006.

Smog Advisory Continues For York Region

A smog advisory for all of York Region continues today.
Temperatures are expected to rise to 31C and a low of 17C is forecasted with a UV index of 8 or very high.
But warm spring showers may break the smog as there is a 40-per-cent chance of rain and a risk of thunderstorm this evening.
During the smog warnings, you may experience eye irritation.
Heavy outdoor exercise may cause respiratory symptoms such as coughing or shortness of breath, and people with heart or lung disease including asthma may experience a worsening of their condition.

RH Decommissions Halls

Richmond Hill will decommission two of its community halls.
Councillors agreed Monday that Spruce Avenue Hall and the Richmond Hill Lions Hall have reached the end of their useful lives as municipal facilities and it is no longer economically viable to repair them.
The two facilities will be decommissioned on Sept. 1.
Council will rule in September on whether or not to sell the land or convert it to parkland.
