Arsonist Caught

York Regional Police have arrested a Markham man in connection with a series of arsons dating back to April.
The most recent blaze was set in the early morning of Oct. 13, in the Lunau Lane and Lindemann Street area of Thornhill. The target was two bags full of leaves, which were found by police and firefighters on the road engulfed in flames.The blaze was linked to a dozen other fires between April 21 and 25 and May 5 to 12, all in Thornhill.A 36-year-old Markham man was arrested on Saturday and charged with 16 counts of arson.He was later released and is due back in court on Nov. 9.

YRP Search For T-Hill Arsonist

York Regional Police are searching for an arsonist, who has been responsible for at least 14 fires in Thornhill since April 21.The most recent blaze was set this past Saturday at about 4 a.m. in the Lunau Lane and Lindemann Street area. Markham Libraries Hold Halloween Workshops

Markham library branches are offering ways to make Halloween memorable with a pair of workshops.The Angus Glen branch will hold a face painting workship where parents can watch as their children have their faces painted by a professional. The instructor will demonstrate tips and techniques for creating spectacular designs that will dazzle family and friends Halloween night.The workshop takes place on Oct. 27 from 2 to 3 p.m. Cost is $10 per child and is open to all ages.The library is at 3990 Major Mackenzie Dr., east of Warden Avenue.Children can also learn how to create Halloween crafts in a workshop at the Milliken Mills branch on Oct. 27 from 1 to 2 p.m. The workshop costs $15, includes all materials, and is open to children between the ages of seven to 12.The Milliken branch is at 7600 Kennedy Rd., Unit 1, just south of 14th Avenue. YRP Release Sketch Of Sex Assault Suspect

York Regional Police need your help finding the man responsible for a sex assault in south Markham on Tuesday.

A 43-year-old woman was walking to work on Kennedy Road south of Denison Streetat about 7:15 a.m. when a man grabbed her from behind, pulled her into a grassy plot of land, threw her to the ground and touched her inappropriately.

The woman was able to fend the man off and he fled south on Kennedy where she approached a passerby who called police.

She was not physically injured in the attack.The suspect is a Caucasian male, 30 to 40 years old, five-feet,eight-inches tall with a medium build and shoulder-length dark hair.

At the time, he was wearing a black sweatshirt, possibly with a hood.
