McGuinty Visits Markham

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty made a brief appearance in Markham last night to help incumbent Markham-Unionville MPP Michael Chan open his campaign office.
Ending a hectic day that had the premier campaigning in Ottawa and Lindsay, he and wife Terri were greeted by about 70 supporters.
Included in the gathering were 14 members of Markham Firefighter Association local 2727, whose 236 members have declared their support for Chan.

The Blue Jays have now dropped four in a row, after last night's 9-2 loss to the New York Yankees.
The big blow came in the 5th inning when Yankee DH Jason Giambi belted his 12th career grand slam.
Game two of three-game series takes place at the Rogers Centre tonight.

YRP Search For Robbery Suspects

York Regional Police are looking for two men after a violent robbery in Concord Saturday.
At about noon, two men walked into a window tinting shop at 207 Edgeley Blvd. where two employees were working and asked about a product.
Both clerks were then attacked, hit on the head and tied up.
The robbers grabbed cash, credit cards and computer equipment before fleeing in an unknown direction.
The first suspect is described as an Asian male, between 19 and 22-years-old, five feet tall with a thin build, a round face and short, dark hair.
He was wearing a white T-shirt, yellow jersey and athletic-style pants.
The second suspect is a black male, 20 to 23 years old, who was wearing dark clothing.

For the second time in three games, the Blue Jays blew a ninth inning lead, falling to the Detroit Tigers last night 5-4.
Toronto had a 4-1 lead heading into the final inning, only to watch the Tigers rally for four runs.
The Jays are back home to begin a three-game series against the New York Yankees.

Keith Pelley has announced he will be stepping down as the Argonauts president at the end of the season.
Pelley will the be the new head of Olympico, the company set up to run the Canadian broadcasts of the 2010 and 2012 Olympics.

Meanwhile, CFL fans will now have the opportunity to vote for this season's all-star teams.
Fans can log on to CFL.ca and futureshop.ca to vote for the East Division and West Division All-Star teams, which will be announced on October 24.

YRP Search For Sex Assault Suspect

York Regional Police have released a composite image of a man wanted for inappropriately touching a teenaged girl in Thornhill on Aug. 28.
At about 2:45 p.m., the 14-year-old girl was walking on Kirk Drive close to Yonge Street when the man approached her.
According to police, The man grabbed the girl and inappropriately touched her repeatedly.
She eventually escaped from her attacker and ran to a nearby restaurant. She was not hurt, police said.
The man wanted for the attack is described as Caucasian, possibly of Portuguese descent, 40 years old, five-feet, 10-inches tall with a medium build, short black hair, scruffy black beard, a big nose, yellow crooked teeth, strong body odour, and a generally unkempt appearance.
The man was wearing T-shirt, black pants and a white belt and was carrying a ripped green gym bag over his shoulder.

Markham Woman Wakes Up To Find Intruder

A Markham man has been charged after a woman woke up to find someone lurking in her bedroom on Saturday.
The man fled the scene when the woman awoke.
A probe was launched by York Regional Police and a man was arrested in connection with the home invasion.
Ron Kakar, 18, of Markham is charged with break and enter with the intent to commit an indictable offence and possession of stolen property under $5,000.
Police are still investigating.
