Press Release - Markham Rededicates Peace Park

MARKHAM, ON ~ Join Mayor Frank Scarpitti and Members of Markham Council for the rededication of Crosby Park as a Peace Park.

Markham was one of 400 cities and towns across Canada that dedicated Peace Parks as part of Canada’s 125th Birthday celebrations in 1992

When: Tuesday, October 9, 2007 – 8:30 a.m.

Where: Crosby Park – corner of Main Street and Carlton Road, Unionville(behind the Arena and Curling Club)

What: Peace Park Rededication

An initiative of the International Institute for Peace through Tourism, these parks:


-Nurture the growth of peace and understanding at home and throughout the world

-Enhance awareness of a community's commitment to peace and a healthy environment

-Create a common ground for members of the community to come together in celebration of their nation's people, land, and heritage, and the common future of all humankind

-Build a place of reflection on our connectedness to one another as a global family and to the earth of which we are all a part.

Press Release - Markham Seeks Award-Winning Residents

MARKHAM, ON ~ Does someone you know deserve an award? Think about nominating them for Markham’s Achievement and Civic Recognition Award (ACRA). The ACRA awards are given every two years to those who have made a significant contribution to the community that has brought recognition to Markham.
Award categories are:

-Business/Corporate Achievement
-Cultural Achievement
-Community Service
-Environmental Achievement
-Sports & Recreation

Markham Store Robbed

Three men are wanted for robbing a Markham convenience store on Wednesday. At about 10:15 p.m., three men entered the Daisy Mart on Kennedy Road. One of them struck the clerk with a baseball bat while the others gathered cash and cigarettes before the trio fled, possibly in a dark green van with stripes along the side.The clerk was taken to hospital, treated and released.
