Two YRP Officers Injured In Crash

Two York Regional Police officers suffered minor injuries after their cruiser was struck by a car this morning in Newmarket.
At about 2:15 a.m., a Chevrolet Malibu was heading east on Davis Drive near Patterson Street and made a left turn into the side of a marked police car.
The man driving the Malibu bolted from the scene.
He was arrested a short distance away and charged with impaired driving and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
His identity has not been released.
The officers were treated by paramedics and released.

Elephants Escape From Newmarket Circus

Three African elephants escaped from a circus in Newmarket early this morning; walking through a nearby residential area before they were safely rounded up.
Circus trainers and York Regional Police used cars to help round up the trio, who were spotted on Eagle St., near Yonge St. and Davis Dr., at around 3 a.m.
The elephants, performing at the Ray Twinney Complex with the Garden Bros. Circus, moved several hundred metres towards Yonge St., munching on shrubs and flowers.

Missing Vaughan Man Found

A Vaughan man who went missing last week is back with his family.
Richard Mangar, 49, returned to his home yesterday at about 3 p.m.
York Regional Police say Mangar is in good health.

The Raptors have signed restricted free-agent forward Maceo Baston to an offer sheet.
Baston's current team, the Indiana Pacers, now have seven days to match the offer.
Financial terms were not released.
Baston previously played for Toronto during the 2002-03 season.

At the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, yesterday's winners were Austria, the United States, Spain and the Czech Republic.
Today, Chile takes on Portugal in Edmonton, Zambia faces Nigeria in Ottawa, Argentina challenges Poland in Toronto, and Mexico meets Congo in Montreal.
