ESA Issues Warning About Flourescent Bulbs

An engineer with the ESA, said he plans to post the warning on its website.

That has scared some homeowners into calling local fire departments.
But the ESA says there have been no reports of fires resulting from fluorescent bulbs in Ontario.
The upcoming advisory will explain that this is the normal way for these energy-efficient bulbs, which can last up to 10,000 hours, to die.

SavourVaughan Gives Back to Local Food Bank

Organizers of SavourVaughan restaurant week donated $2500.00 dollars to the Vaughan Food Bank earlier today.

Organizers Jennifer Montesano and Elvira Caria handed over a cheque to Vaughan Food Bank Executive Director Peter Wixson with many City Dignitaries and invited guests on hand.

Jennifer Montesano explained: “ SavourVaughan restaurant week is a celebration of fine flavours in our City, and is an opportunity for those to go out and sample fine cuisine at a fixed price, but we are also sensitive to the reality that not all citizens in our community are fortunate enough to take part in such luxuries. This is our way of acknowledging those in need in our community.”

The Vaughan Food Bank is in need of more space, and would ultimately like to expand its headquarters.

Executive Director Peter Wixson says “This money will go along way to help put food on the table of those less fortunate. I am grateful to SavourVaughan for their kind generosity.”

Located at 71 Marycroft Avenue, the Vaughan Food Bank provides emergency food assistance to individuals and families who are in need. While food bank clients generally receive a 2-4 day supply of food, the Vaughan Food Bank is usually supplying its clients with assistance for up to 28 days.

Food banks distribute non-perishable food items that have been donated by the community, and rely heavily on the time and generosity of others. Food banks do not receive any government funding. There is an application process a client must go through in order to receive assistance. The Vaughan Food Bank also assists community
programs and agencies such as Rose Sharon-Services for Young Mothers and The Yellow Brick House Women’s Shelter.
