Hwy. 48 Reopens After Georgina Crash

All lanes near Hwy. 48 at Old Homestead Road in Georgina have been cleared after a tractor trailer went into the ditch, spilling some gravel.Georgina Fire Department reported to the scene first and blocked the highway after the crash occurred at about 6:30 a.m. The driver of the rig was not injured.

Man Inovled With Officer's Death Pleads Guilty

One of two men charged in the aftermath of York Regional Police Det.-Const. Robert Plunkett’s death has pleaded guilty to six theft and stolen property offences.Baseer Mohammed Yousafzai, 23, of Toronto pleaded guilty to one count of theft over $5,000, two counts of theft under $5,000, one count of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and two counts of breach of recognizance.Yousafzai was sentenced to eight months in jail. He has been in custody since his arrest on Aug. 2 and will serve another two months.When released, he will be on probation for two years.
