UPDATE: YRP Officer Killed

Two people have been arrested after a York Regional Police officer was killed this morning on a residential street in Unionville.
The officer's name has not been released as his family is still being notified.
Police say the officer died after he was struck and dragged by a car at around 5:46 a.m. as he investigated a theft in the area.
Media reports claim the officer was deliberately run down.
York Regional Police are investigating the death as a homicide and will hold a news conference this afternoon.

Media Release: NO NAME FRENCH STYLE GREEN BEANS MAY CONTAIN DANGEROUS BACTERIA

OTTAWA, August 1, 2007 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Loblaws Inc. are warning the public not to consume the No Name French Style Green Beans described below because the product may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum. Toxins produced by this bacteria may cause botulism, a life-threatening illness.
The affected product is No Name French Style Green Beans, 398 ml cans, bearing UPC 60383 03310. The affected cans bear the following in the top line of the can code. EAA5247, EAA5257, EAA5267, EAA5277, EAB5247, EAB5257, ECA5207, ECA5217, ECA5227, ECA5297, ECB5207, ECB5217, ECB5227 and ECB5307. This product has been distributed in Ontario and the Western provinces.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.
Food contaminated with Clostridium botulinum toxin may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with the toxin may cause nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, headache, double vision, dry throat, respiratory failure and paralysis. In severe cases of illness, people may die.
Loblaws Inc. is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
Currently a larger recall involving numerous brand names of French Style Green Beans manufactured by Lakeside Foods Inc., Manitowoc, Wisconsin, is underway in the United States. Anyone who has or plans to purchase French Style Green Beans in the U.S. should consult the Food and Drug Administration website at www.fda.gov for a complete list of the recalled products. Code and label information will also be posted on the Lakeside Foods Inc. website www.lakesidefoods.com.

Home Invasion In Thornhill

York Regional Police are looking for two suspects after a home invasion in Thornhill on Tuesday. At about 11:30 a.m., two men answered a knock at the door of their Coral Harbour Crescent home, in the Bayview Avenue and John Street area and were greeted by two suspects who barged inside and put a large silver handgun to the one of their heads.
According to police, the men were blindfolded, bound and subjected to a Taser-like weapon as the suspects demanded valuables.
Both suspects are described as black males between 25 and 27 years old.
The suspect carrying the gun is five-feet, 10-inches tall with a thin build and goatee and was wearing a white T-shirt and baseball cap.
The other suspect is six-feet tall with an average build and goatee and was clad in a black tank top.

BREAKING NEWS: YRP Officer Killed

A York Regional Police officer was killed this morning while working on an investigation on a residential street in Unionville.
The Toronto Star is reporting the undercover officer died after he was struck and dragged by a car on Harvest Moon Drive at 5:46 a.m.
According to reports, police are investigating the death as a homicide.
Details are sketchy but police on the side street, which winds between Birchmount Rd. and Kennedy Rd. one block north of Steeles Ave., were paying close attention to a single car at the scene.
York Regional Police have yet to make an official statement.

Power Outage In Thornhill

Approximately 300 homes were in the dark after a power outage in Thornhill yesterday.
Neighbours reported the outage in the Don Mills Road area between Steeles Avenue and John Street at around 4 p.m.
A PowerStream spokesperson classified the outage as small and said the utility was investigating the cause.

The Blue Jays were beaten by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 6-2.
The big blow came in the sixth inning when Tampa's Carl Crawford hit a two-run home run.

Toronto wins the best-of-seven playoff series four games to one.
The Leafs will now move on the Intercounty semi-finals, where they will face the Brantford Red Sox.

The Vaughan Italia Shooters beat GS United 2-0, in the opening round of the Open Canada Cup tournament.
