Update: Elementary Student Dies

An autopsy is to be conducted early this afternoon on the body of an eight-year-old Markham student.
An investigation into the death of the student is now in the hands of the coroner's office.
York Regional Police have stated that the circumstances surrounding the boy's death are "not criminal in nature."
Police were called to John McCrae P.S. in the Major Mackenzie Drive and McCowan Road area, yesterday afternoon.
The boy was rushed to Markham Stouffville Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
His name has not been made public.

Markham Holds Workshop

A recent study, commissioned by the Town of Markham, indicates there are significant opportunities to build on the Town’s reputation for high technology leadership through the attraction of companies in the life sciences, biotechnology and creative industries.
As a first step, the Mayor and Members of the business and social community will participate in a morning workshop on Wednesday, March 21st, at the Angus Glen Golf Course (10080 Kennedy Road).
Those attending will hear keynote speaker, Dr. Jerry Halik, of Markham Stouffville Hospital, followed by workshop summary remarks from Mayor Frank Scarpitti.

Elementary Student Dies

Police are investigating the death of a student at a Markham school yesterday.
A young boy was rushed to Markham Stouffville Hospital following an incident at John McCrae P.S. in the Major Mackenzie and McCowan area.
He was pronounced dead upon reaching the hospital.
Media reports state that the boy was found at the bottom of a stairwell during gym class.
Police confirmed they were aware of the matter but would not release any details.

Sports Report

Thomas Kaberle might be in the line up tonight, as the Maple Leafs host the New Jersey Devils.
The defenseman has been out of action since March 2nd when he sustained a concussion from a controversial hit by New Jersey's Cam Jannsen.
A decision on Kaberle's status will be made later today.
The game gets underway at 7:30pm at the Air Canada Centre.

The Blue Jays outscored the New York Yankees, 9-1.
Greg Zaun hit a three-run homer while pitchers, Tomo Okha and Victor Zambrano, gave solid performances.
The Jays are off today but will resume their spring training schedule tomorrow.
