Ross Murder Trial Begins

The murder trial of a man charged with killing 25-year-old Alicia Ross is underway in a Newmarket courtroom.
Daniel Sylvester tried to plead guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter last week, but was denied.
He has been charged with second-degree murder.
A jury of eight women and four men will begin hearing testimony today.
Ross went missing from her Thornhill residence on Aug. 17, 2005.

RH Man Out Of Hospital, In Rehab

A Richmond Hill man who plunged off a roof in Markham last month is out of hospital and in rehab, according to the province's Special Investigations Unit.
The unit interviewed medical personnel from Markham Stouffville Hospital last week in its investigation of the April 10 incident.
The 26-year-old man, who is believed to have been a mental health patient, fled from Markham Stouffville Hospital, then fell from a garage in the Cornell area.
The SIU is now probing and verifying all evidence to determine the circumstances of the man's injuries and what role, if any, police played.

Emergency Preparedness Week In Markham

The Town of Markham has declared May 6-12, Emergency Preparedness Week.
Residents can identify and learn about risks in the community and how they can protect themselves from potential hazards and disasters.
The public is invited to visit the Town of Markham Emergency Management Program display at the Markville Shopping Centre until May 12.

AJ Burnett struck out nine batters, but surrendered three solo home runs as the Texas Rangers beat the Blue Jays 3-2, sweeping the three game series.
Toronto extended their losing streak to six games and are five games below the .500 mark.
The Jays have the day off before starting a new series with Boston on Tuesday.
