Markham Theatre and the Markham Museum received nearly $1 million from the federal government yesterday.
The Museum received $854,500 to repair its Ward building, which will preserve the museum's collection and provide archival and storage space.
Meanwhile, the Markham Theatre received $100,000 to upgrade its audio system.
Both funding announcements were made possible by the Cultural Spaces Canada program, which seeks to improve the physical conditions for artistic creativity and innovation and increase Canadians' access to different forms of arts and culture.
Heritage Minister Bev Oda also announced more than $9.3 million for the cultural sector in the Greater Toronto Area, during a press conference at the Markham Theatre.
