A Newmarket court heard yesterday how Alicia Ross was killed just steps from the front door of her family's Thornhill home following a confrontation with her next door neighbour.
In the opening day of the murder trial, the jury heard how a run-in between Ross and her neighbour, Daniel Sylvester, escalated into a violent fight, lasting only a few minutes.
In her opening remarks, Crown prosecutor Kelly Wright said she rejected Sylvester's bid to plead guilty to manslaughter.
Wright told the jury that Sylvester's actions demonstrated that he intended to kill Ross.
Sylvester has been charged with second-degree murder.
