York Region’s Administrative Centre is venue for Planet in Focus Film Festival
Canada’s premiere environmental film festival, the Planet in Focus International Environmental Film and Video Festival, will expand its venues to The Regional Municipality of York Administrative Centre starting Tuesday, January 29th.

WHEN : Tuesday, January 29 - Conflict Tiger: As a village in eastern Siberia expands into the forest, tigers fight to retain every inch of their habitat. (Not suitable for young children)
Thursday, February 21 - Radiophobia: Twenty years later, town residents and workers of the Chernobyl power plant in Prypiat, Ukraine, return to the scene of the world’s worst civilian nuclear disaster. (English subtitles)
Wednesday, March 19 - Thanks for all the Fish: The Aborigine people of Stradbroke Island, Australia would call to their local dolphins by striking the surface of the water in a coded rhythm. The dolphins would drive shoals of fish against the shore and a portion of the catch was always given back to the dolphins to show thanks and respect. Are there things that we can learn from a system that emphasizes balance?
Thursday, April 24 - Alone Across Australia: Jon Muir, one of the world’s most accomplished climbers and adventurers, attempts to cross the continent of Australia from the south coast to the north (2,500 km) with his dog as his only company and carrying nothing but the barest essentials. The Regional Municipality of York Administrative Centre is located at 17250 Yonge Street in Newmarket and is easily accessible by public transit including VIVA and YRT. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Those arriving by transit will receive a $2 discount by showing a valid transfer. All proceeds will be forwarded to the not-for-profit Planet in Focus International Environmental Film and Video Festival (www.planetinfocus.org)
