Markham Scores High Waste Diversion Rate

The use of blue boxes and green bins has paid off for the residents of Markham.
According to a Statistics Canada survey, the town has reached a 70-per-cent diversion rate, meaning only 30 per cent of its waste goes to a landfill.
Toronto, in comparison, is at about 42 per cent diversion, while Montreal and Calgary are working at diverting one-third of their waste.
